Hi, my name is Marcus Snow – Welcome to my blog!
Dead Game
It feels preposterous that I haven’t made a single post this entire year. Inspired by Tania Racia’s annual yearly review, I figured I could at the very least give my thoughts on 2024 as a whole. Personal project wise, this was a pretty productive year. I deployed my first PWA called Media List, an app that resides on my own phone and I get a lot of use out of. I have continued to explore, as I’m sure many other developers have, the use of A....
Dead Letters Devlog - 015
In what is tantamount to a Christmas miracle, I have finished the first build of my game. It took me 6 months, 16 written devlogs, and 4 video devlogs, to make a 2-minute long game. I am very proud of crossing the finishing line, but am eager to move on. I learned a tremendous amount about Godot making this typing railshooter game. I had a lot of fun with certain parts of making the game, and surprisingly, very much disliked other parts of game design....
Dead Letters Devlog - 014
General Thoughts A small update on a Saturday morning: Added a very unpolished start screen. The game feels significantly more “gamey” with a start screen, I’m digging it. My latest youtube devlog currently has 5x the amount of my prior gamedev log, so I think doing a voice over and making an actual thumbnail went a long way. It’s also pretty neat to read comments about something I’ve been working on in more or less isolation....
Dead Letters Devlog - 013
General Thoughts I have finally settled on a name for my game - Dead Letters. I am happy to retire “Untitled Typing Game” as the working title. I also finished my third video log this past weekend. I put a little more effort into this one, being my longest video by far coming in at a bit over 7 minutes. My prior video was 1 minute as a reference. It was a fun learning experience doing a voice-over and editing my video....
Godot Untitled Typing Game - 012
General Thoughts Wow, it’s been over two weeks since my last update. That’s the longest break in between updates since I’ve started. These last two weeks have been very productive. I have, for the most part, completed all the needed logic for the main game loop. I’m now at the actual designing stage of the game and in the midst of building out a cityscape for the first level. It is a surprisingly tedious endeavor, and I can feel myself wanting to rush through this process so I can move on to the next game....
